IJDJ works with the people of Haiti in their non-violent struggle for the return and consolidation of constitutional democracy, justice and human rights, by distributing objective and accurate information on human rights conditions in Haiti, pursuing legal cases, and cooperating with human rights and solidarity groups in Haiti and abroad.
IJDH draws on its founders' internationally-acclaimed success accompanying Haiti's poor majority in the fields of law, medicine and social justice activism. We seek the restoration of the rule of law and democracy in the short term, and work for the long-term sustainable change necessary to avert Haiti's next crisis.

Alan Dooley has been involved with the design of Visitation Hospital since 1999.   He designed the Visitation Clinic, which opened in January 2008. 
Dooley has now begun design of both the Ambulatory Surgery Center and Hospital campus.  Dooley also serves as a member of the VHF Board of Directors. 
He has 20 years of widely varied experiences as a custom reisdential and commercial architect.  He is also a 3-D specialist, and has a current interest in sustainable "green" design.
Dooley attended the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and worked his way through college spending summers in construction with current Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, when Senator Corker ran a small company in Chattanooga.  He also worked for Earl Swennson Associates, Nashville.

Under the leadership of Fr. Thomas Streit, the University of Notre Dame's Haiti Project and VHF are working together to educate the people of Haiti on lymphatic filariasis.   Plans call for an eradication of lymphatic filariasis by the year 2013 through a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and through VHF and parishes, who are a part of the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas.  Co-fortified iodized salt and medications are being administered.

Parish Twinning Program of the Americas

PTPA is a Catholic-affiliated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which has helped to develop over 350 “sister parish” relationships between churches in the US and Canada and church communities in Haiti. This program’s outreach was extended in 1998 and now has 50 twinnings in Mexico, Central & South America, the Philippine Islands and Cuba. Since 1978 parishes have been providing resources and aid for healthcare, educational, pastoral, and economic purposes for their sister parishes throughout Haiti and other countries in Latin America.  With nearly 1,000 people traveling to Haiti each year, PTPA is the largest citizen-to-citizen network linking Haiti with North America. American and Canadian parishes have sent over $30 million in monetary relief over the years and shipped tons of medicines, medical and school supplies and other goods. The organization and its parishes have brought numerous children and adults to the US for life-saving medical care since 1988.  PTPA parishes have also sent hundreds of medical missions to Haiti since 1989 with more than 60 parishes participating in organizing medical teams. Medical missions have also now been extended into Honduras. When it became apparent in 1999 that a hospital was needed to serve the numerous medical teams in Haiti, PTPA established the Visitation Hospital Foundation (VHF), a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based out of Nashville, Tennessee, which is also providing healthcare for the community of Petite Rivière de Nippes and the entire de Nippes region. Visitation Clinic, the first phase of the full-service hospital, was completed and dedicated on January 19, 2008.
