Visitation Clinic in southwest Haiti has been a sign of hope and healing for the people living within a seven-region area, who previously had no access to health care. We want to share with you the story of Miriam.
Miriam is a four-year-old girl who first visited the Clinic in August. Miriam lives with her mom, dad, two brothers and one sister in Petite Rivière de Nippes. She is a very shy little girl, but very sweet. She had an open wound on her neck and was sent to Miragoâne hospital, a few hours away by car, for additional tests. After several trips there and more tests, she was diagnosed with glandular tuberculosis. The staff at Visitation Clinic has been working to get her better, but it is difficult for families to come up with the money for advanced testing, medicines, surgery, etc. According to Clinic Administrator, Karen Jung, Miriam underwent six out of eight treatments so far and is showing no visible signs of Tuberculosis. She was even able to start back to school in January.
Because of the compassionate care she and her family received at Visitation Clinic, and the treatments at the nearest hospital, Miriam has a chance to live a normal life. With a full-service hospital we hope to build, we will not have to send Miriam, or others like her, away from home for treatment.
The Clinic staff is treating 90 patients per day and each one has an incredible story of hope and healing due to dedicated people serving their health care needs. We are treating disease, offering a de-worming program for children and adults of the entire region, purifying drinking water, and providing nutrition through vitamins and food supplements for children suffering from malnutrition.
We are currently working with the Haitian Ministry of Health to provide vaccinations for the community and they have asked us to serve as an AIDS testing site.
Your dollars in the past have made all this happen. Your dollars go a long way in Haiti, and we are asking you now to please consider a gift or pledge to help children like Miriam have a chance to receive good health care and nutrition.
There is no amount too small to give. We are asking that you prayerfully consider a monthly gift of $5.00, $10.00, $25.00, $50.00 or $100.00. Whatever you can give, please know that the dollars you spend today will save a life in Haiti tomorrow.
These days, we are all struggling through a difficult economic climate and we are all taking measures to assure that we make ends meet. That is why we are even more grateful to you for responding to this plea for help for the sake of the poor in Haiti.
If you would like to make a pledge, please click the “Pledge” button now and download a form. Then mail it to us at 615/385-2363. We accept checks, all major credit cards, and automatic debits from your checking account. We will make it as easy as possible for you to give and you will receive a self-addressed envelope in the mail with each “thank you” tax letter we send to you.
May God bless you for caring for God’s poor. Without your help, we may need to cut back on services to the Haitian people, who rely on us for this basic need. Won’t you please help?
