In the midst of all the stife facing the people of Haiti, including a recent outbreak of cholera affecting thousands across the country, clinic staff take a moment to remember how far they have come over the past three years.
When the clinic opened in January 2008, it was a celebration for the entire community, since no comprehensive health care was available to the people there. Now, three years later, the clinic has initiated a de-worming program, continues to offer vaccinations for children and adults, offers education on nutrition, agriculture, water purification, and provides water purification systems to the families it serves. AIDS testing and treatment was a huge component of the services we have offered at the clinic, and after a horrific earthquake that took 300,000 lives, the staff is staff is now faced with treating cholera.
Not only does the staff provide good medical care, but it does so with compassion. People come from miles around because of the wonderful reputation of Visitation Clinic.
This year, the Clinic hopes to begin to offer outpatient surgical procedures as well and continue in its efforts to extend outreach to those unable to walk to the clinic.
We congratulate our Medical Director, Dr. Jean-Francois, our Clinic Administrator, Riphard "Killy" Serent, and all the staff who make it possible for Visitation Hospital Foundation to offer hope and healing to the people of Haiti. Happy Third Anniversary!
